SATURDAY FEB 10th – Music Box Presents:

SPINDRIFT (Los Angeles – Spaghetti Western / Psychedelic)
The Spiral Electric (San Francisco – Heavy Psychedelic Rock)
Killer Kaya (Psychedelic / funk)

Projections by White Light Prism

at The UPTOWN Nightclub
1928 Telegraph Ave, Oakland

Get psychedelic spaghetti-western pioneers SPINDRIFT’s newly remixed and reissued LP “The West” on VINYL! They’re back on tour after a 6-month absence from the Bay Area to rock The Uptown’s stage again with acid-rock voyagers THE SPIRAL ELECTRIC, who are riding a wave of Spotify love and recording a new LP w/ Steve Kille of Dead Meadow; and joined by Santa Barbara’s psychedelic psych-funk sensations KILLER KAYA, who played last year’s Starry Nites Festival!

SPINDRIFT
(Los Angeles)
“Spindrift: experimental, epic, cinematically inspired music more akin to the textured, symphonic layers of Portishead than the chaps and 10-gallon hat–wearing Riders in the Sky….makes you feel like you’ve just been made love to by a handsome stranger, a genius visceral experience.”
– LA WEEKLY

“[Spindrift makes] you feel like you’ve been granted access to the distant memories of a two-bit-saloon harlot as she watches her nameless lover ride off into the sunset.”
– LA WEEKLY

“Spindrift are living the American dream, were it written by acid-popping UFO enthusiasts with a hard-on for John Wayne”
– THE SALT LAKE CITY WEEKLY

THE SPIRAL ELECTRIC
(San Francisco)
The Spiral Electric initially began in San Francisco as a psychedelic guitar duo consisting of Clay Andrews (vocals, keyboards, guitar) and Nicolas Percey (lead guitar), and has shifted through various lineups over the years, venturing through acid rock with flavours of surf, post-punk, british goth and indie, noise, drone, and stoner rock. Between 2012 and 2017, they have gathered a dedicated international following and toured up and down the US west coast from Seattle to Los Angeles and played festivals like the Desert Stars Festival in Pioneertown CA, Starry Nites Festival in Santa Barbara, Gathering of the Tribes Festival in San Francisco, CA, and the Portland Psych Fest in Portland, OR. They have recorded two EPs at Skylab Studio in Los Angeles and Joshua Tree with producer Tommy Dietrick– “Upon Your Shore” (released April 2015) and “Ask The Sky” (released December 2016), and are recording a new 12-song LP at Wiggle Room Studio in Los Angeles with Steve Kille (Dead Meadow / Xemu Records).

The sound of The Spiral Electric is one part soaring melody, one part face melting guitar, one part orbiting synth, one part danceable groove and a heavy dose of west coast psychedelia, shaken not stirred. Drink it straight, no chaser!

KILLER KAYA
(Santa Barbara)
Killer Kaya is a six piece psychedelic and funk outfit based out of Santa Barbara, California. Named after a rather large house cat, Killer Kaya has a 60’s era psychedelic sound with funk and soul elements and is composed of Apoorva Chiplunkar on vocals, Zach Rengert on guitar/drums, Eric Engel on drums/guitar, Alex Pavellas on bass, Cory Lund on trumpet and keys, and Josh Sheltzer on saxophone. The lovechild of scientists and hippies, Killer Kaya is reminiscent of the days where flower children roamed free and incense swirled about in whimsical billows. Sun soaked melodic threads run through Killer Kaya’s rainbow prism of sound, evocative of bands like Janis Joplin and Big Brother and The Holding Company and Jefferson Airplane.

Killer Kaya released their first EP titled Cigarette Echolocation in 2015 and their first full length album, 29 Lives in August 2017. Having played throughout the Central Coast, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Killer Kaya has shared the bill with notable musicians like funk legend Shuggie Otis and Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Having made their festival debut at Starry Nites Festival alongside acts like The Kills, The Dandy Warhols, Cat Power, and Teenage Fanclub this March, Killer Kaya also performed at the 2017 Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival and with SF based rockers Gabby Lala & Snow Angel through the Central Coast and Northern California areas in fall 2017. Killer Kaya will be recording new material in early 2018 and will be playing dates throughout the Southern & Northern California areas.
